Designed for Physiotherapists, Fitness and Gym Instructors, Coaches, Trainers, Managers, Teachers and Officials who require the enhanced knowledge and skills necessary to manage sports injuries and medical emergencies on and off the field; safely, promptly and effectively prior to the arrival of professional help, while also being able to aid the ambulance crews when they arrive.

The course content will also address common sports injuries, and most importantly spinal injuries which have the potential to develop, if left untreated, into long-term problems and further absence from the sport.

The course comprises both theoretical and practical training to develop competence in the following areas:

Course Content:

  • General Principles of Sports Injuries
  • Injury Prevention
  • General treatment of a casualty on & off the field
  • Basic Anatomy and Physiology
  • The unconscious casualty - Airway management - Recovery Position
  • Disorders of the airway and breathing including choking
  • Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Skeletal injuries and management
  • Head injuries
  • Fractures
  • Record keeping - Injury/incident report form
  • Joint injuries - Ligament injuries - Dislocations
  • Muscle injuries - Extrinsic and Intrinsic
  • Disorders of the circulatory system - Heart Attack - Wounds
  • Friction Burns - Blisters - Muscle Cramp - Stitch - Acute winding
  • Exercise induced asthma
  • Groin pain/injury- Ruptures
  • General rules for the care and transport of the injured casualty
  • Practical bandaging and taping techniques
  • The First Aid Kit

Course Duration

  • 2 x 6 Hours or 4 x 3 Hours

Course Material

  • All delegates receive a comprehensive course book at the start of the course.

Assessment

  • Assessments will be conducted on a continual basis throughout the course using first aid sports injury and medical emergency scenarios.

Certification

  • Successful delegates receive a certificate of competency valid for three years.
